Eat Maine Foods!

Beginning a farmers market this year in Brooklin, Maine. Growers, producers out there who are in Brooklin, please come by The Cave at noon tomorrow for an organizational meeting.

We need help with a couple of questions that don't seem answered on various websites we've queried.

A punch list of licensing required?

Home baked goods. Produced only in dept. of ag approved commercial kitchen, for an example?

Congratulations of getting a market started in Brooklin!

For a list of licenses required by the various market members (it depends on what they produce for sale at market) see the Resources page at www.mffm.org. Look in the "Laws, Regulations & Permits" section. For unpackaged, unprocessed veggies, you don't need anything except a legal for trade scale. For kitchen processed foods such as baked goods, pickles, jams, and such, you'll need to make them in a ME Dept of Ag licensed home kitchen. For meats, cheeses, dairy, etc., it gets more complicated. The best thing to do is to have producers of those items talk to someone who is already selling those items in a farmers' market. Perhaps posting specific questions in the Farmers' Market Group would get some results, too.
