I have about a dozen high bush blueberries that I want to move to a new location. I think they are about 3 years old and about 36 inches high. They are not heavily producing and they are in an area where the deer often get to them.
I was thinking of moving them closer to my house an alongside my spring fed pond.
Does anyone have any info on transplanting them? I was thinking of moving them after they are done producing fruit.
At the Common Ground Fair last weekend there was a talk on raising highbush blueberries given by David Handley of UMaine Cooperative Extension. He said they transplant well, and that they have a shallow root system to when digging them up its more important to dig wide than to dig deep. I cannot remember what he said about time of year to do it, but you might try contacting the Extension.
