I am organizing a buying club program for the Bangor Library to take place in late October with the key message: "Get great local food all year long." We'll
survey all the ways to do that in the Bangor area, then focus on buying clubs. Our model will be to use the Bangor Grange Hall as a central distribution
site for a number of small clubs made up of people who live or work in close proximity.
We hope to help several 'micro-local' clublets form which can share the Thursday delivery and breakdown/order placing at Bangor Grange Hall, each clublet
sending one (or more) reps to place and pick up the orders. Individual household orders can be broken down at the hall using the new digital scale, and
the clublet rep. can pay each order with that person's check, cash or money order, or the clublet may make other arrangements (e.g. its own bank account or cash
deposit for the representative to draw on) If it grows big enough, it may establish its own delivery site and schedule. I can see this happening in downtown Bangor and
Orono pretty quickly.
