The weather outside is frightful,
But the shrimp are so delightful!
It's shrimp time again and this winter Penobscot East Resource Center will be adding picked shrimp to its shrimp Community Supported Fishery (CSF). Penobscot East's third annual CSF will feature both whole and picked shrimp, all locally caught by fishermen who have agreed to participate.
CSF members not only receive fresh, high-quality local shrimp, they also support fishermen by supporting an important winter source of income at fair prices. The CSF links fishermen directly with the customers who are eating their shrimp, promoting understanding and exchange. When a customer invests in a shrimp CSF share, they make an investment in the wellbeing of eastern Maine’s fishing communities, the mission of Penobscot East Resource Center.
Pick up’s will be on Saturday’s at locations in Stonington, Blue Hill, Ellsworth and Mount Desert Island. The CSF will run for 8 weeks, starting on January 8, 2011 and ending February 26, 2011. Whole shrimp will be offered in full shares of 10lb’s at $2.00 per pound, $1600.00 for the season or half shares of 5lbs at $2.00 per pound, $80.00 for the season. Picked shrimp will be offered in 2.5lb shares for $7.00 per pound, $140.00 for the season.
If you are interested in becoming a CSF member or have further questions please contact Evie Smith at 367-2708 or evie@penobscoteast.org. To learn more about Penobscot East Resource Center and the CSFs we run please visit www.penobscoteast.org.
